Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Updated: Feb 8, 2019

Platelet rich plasma, or PRP, is a phenomenal technique that has become widely utilized in the medical field, using the patient's own blood and it's powerful healing potential, to stimulate the release of STEM cells, growth factors and stimulate new collagen to repair and heal damaged tissue. PRP harvesting and administration is utilized in the dental and orthopaedic fields to heal bones, ligaments, joints and tendons. And now we use PRP to heal damaged, scarred or aged skin!

Here at Renove Med Spa, Dr. Michelle Parsons utilizes PRP in the form of direct dermal injection and in combination with deep microneedling to treat facial, neck and chest skin to dramatically improve texture and elasticity. Dr. Parsons also treats the scalp with PRP to stimulate improve hair regrowth. The results of just one PRP Microneedling treatment are stunning and fast, with improvement in skin texture apparent within two weeks following the treatment. The improvement continues for months following the treatment.

How Is PRP Performed?

Harvesting your PRP is a relatively simple process though it is a medical treatment and should only be performed under the direct guidance of a physician. First, your blood will be drawn from your arm, just as if you were getting blood drawn for a blood test, and a topical numbing clean applied to the area to be treated. Your blood will then be processed and prepared in a laboratory centrifuge to separate the red blood cells and the white blood cells from the platelets to isolate the growth factors.

Once the growth factors from your own blood have been isolated, Dr. Parsons the uses a micro-needling device to create multiple micro-punctures –both driving the isolated growth factors into the skin & creating stimulus for tightening and rejuvenation of the collagen of the face.

Dr. Parsons applies the growth factors onto the micro-punctures so that the growth factors soak into the tissue for further stimulation of tightening and skin rejuvenation. These growth factors then activate multi-potent stem cells already in the skin (tricking them into “thinking” there’s been an injury and new younger tissue should be generated). The skin tightens, and glows with color, and scaring softens for a beautiful younger and very natural result. The effects of the procedure improve for 2 to 3 months and last for at least 1 to 2 years! For best results, the literature recommends annual treatment with PRP Microneedling.
